The Return of the San Diego 200
If 200‑mile races are considered graduate‑level ultras, the San Diego 200 is a post‑graduate event—demanding, multidimensional, and engineered for runners who are as skilled in the mountains as they are on runnable terrain. It features aggressive cutoffs that require both speed and resilience, rewarding athletes who can adapt to every environment San Diego offers.
Gabe Peterson and Alex Esquivel, the last to finish the event in 2022, are officially bringing back the San Diego 200. They are joined by Gabe Rubenstein, who crewed them through their original journey and knows the course intimately. All three are accomplished 200‑mile runners with finishes including Moab 240 and Cocodona 250. Together, they combine firsthand experience, logistical expertise, and a shared commitment to honoring the vision and legacy of event originator Phillip Espinoza.
